  Iron  Norman Axe Head.

This is a personal seal of Madoc family of Hope and Gresford - North Wales. It is dated to between 1270 and 1330 according to Rev: Dr David.H.Williams who had this to say about it.
"A sun or star of eight rays (The initial S of the legend is reversed) + S'MADOCI F'MADOCI

A lead matrix found in 1988 near Wrexham, Clwyd, in whose possession it now remains (now donated to the National Museum of Wales). One Madoc Duy vap Maoc vap Adam, had property at Gresford in 1320, one Madoc Vaghan ap Madog ap Thomas had land in Hope - Nr Wrexham, (Clwyd).

This crude seal would have been made probably by an itinerant maker of cheap personal seals to order. It was found folded inward which was customary at that time and dedicated to the earth in his memory so that no one else could use it after his death.
